Hello Everyone, I had my first infusion of infliximab on Friday and just wondered if anyone out there who's on the same could tell me about their experience with it.....? I've been extremely down and tearful since Friday but this could be to do with the fact that this is my 3rd Anti-TNF and I'm beginning to lose faith that anything will take away my pain. I've failed on Humira and Enbrel already. What side effects has anyone experienced? And how long did it take to work? I have another one in two weeks' time. Sorry for sounding a bit negative - just wondering if anyone out there can help? Thank you very much.... Allison Sad

Hi Alison,
Sorry your feeling so down, I've been on infliximab since the end of March (had 4 infusions) but like you it hasnt helped at all! If anything I feel worse.. There is another infusion anti tnf that they could try, when do you see your consultant next? I know how you feel and its such a waiting game. Whats your GP like? Might be worth making an appt to say how down you are feeling..
Hope things get better, thinking of you Love Ceri x

Hi Allison

Sorry to hear you are feeling so low, I can totally understand, it certainly is a lot of trial and error with all the drugs.

I have had RA for a couple of years but only commenced treatment with leflunomide, hydrooxy, and a array of other bits and pieces in Feb of last year. Due to inflammation levels still being high, at the beginning of October commenced infliximab, no improvement so in April I swapped the lef. for mtx, infact I had a CRP score at the end of June which read 104 ( never been over 70 before ) so obviously not working. Saw the consultant last week, no more infusions and will be starting Cimzia in due course. The only real side effect was severe itching and rash, I asked my GP for anti histamine tablets and they worked a treat.

I know infliximab does work very well for many people, and really hope this is the one for you.

Take care, Julia x

Just a note for Ceri

Sorry to hear you are not doing well with it, have been thinking of you, I m not sure how long you have to be on it before you can go to something else, in hindsight I should have tried to change earlier it was my idea to swap over from lef to mtx just hoping this would work. Julia x

Hello everyone, thank you for all your kind words and encouragement......I am feeling better today - not so down. I've been told it takes around 3 infusions before I notice any difference so I'm keeping everything crossed. You need the patience of a saint don't you?! Thanks again .....Allison x
